Citations are checked against CourtListener, a legal-validator API, Lexis, and your local case database. Each citation receives a verification tier, and problem citations are flagged with the exact issue: fabricated quote, wrong topic, nonexistent case, or citation format error. You see a risk score for every document before you file or respond.
How It Works
Upload or Paste
Upload a document (PDF, Word, or text), paste text directly, or verify citations in a filing already in your case. The system extracts every citation using legal citation parsing.
Multi-Source Verification
Each citation is checked against CourtListener (free case law), legal-validator API, Lexis, and your local database. Quotes are compared against actual opinion text with similarity scoring.
Review Results
Each citation receives a verification tier badge. Problem citations show exactly what is wrong. The system suggests verified replacement authorities for bad citations.
What's Included
Multi-Source Verification
Citations are checked against four sources: CourtListener (free RECAP database), legal-validator API, Lexis integration, and your local case database. A citation must fail all sources to be flagged as Not Found.
Verification Tiers
Five verification tiers: Quote Match (exact quote confirmed), Verified Match (case exists and is on-point), Quote Mismatch (case exists but quoted text is wrong), Citation Error (malformed citation), and Not Found (case does not appear to exist).
Problem Detection
Detects fabricated quotes (quote not in opinion), wrong topic (case is about a different area of law), misattributions (quote is from a different case), and nonexistent cases (no record found in any database).
Quote Matching
Compares quoted text against actual opinion text using similarity scoring with an 80% match threshold. Catches subtle misquotes and paraphrases presented as direct quotes.
Risk Scoring
Each filing receives a citation risk score based on the number and severity of verification failures. Prioritize review for high-risk filings — your own before filing, and opposing counsel's for potential sanctions motions.
Batch Verification
Verify all citations in a document with a single click. The system processes citations in parallel and presents results as a verification scorecard with detailed audit trails.
Correction Suggestions
When a bad citation is found, the system researches and suggests verified replacement authorities on the same legal point. Accept a replacement with one click.
Opposing Counsel Analysis
Run verification on opposing counsel's filings to identify bad citations. Build motions to strike or sanctions requests with documented verification failures backed by authoritative sources.
