Getting Started with Attorney Workbench

Everything you need to go from sign-up to managing your first case in under 30 minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Visit attorneyworkbench.com/demo to request access. Once approved, you will receive an email with your login credentials. Sign in and you will be taken to your dashboard.

During setup, you will be asked for:

  • Your name and email — used for your attorney profile
  • Your firm name — creates your firm workspace
  • Your bar number and jurisdiction — enables jurisdiction-specific features like SCRCP deadline computation

The entire process takes less than 5 minutes.

Step 2: Add Your First Case

From the dashboard, click "+ New Case" to create your first case. You will need:

  • Case number — the court-assigned case number (e.g., 2024-CP-10-1234)
  • Case name — the case caption (e.g., Bryant v. Smith)
  • Court — the court where the case is filed
  • Judge — the assigned judge (optional at creation, can be added later)
  • Your role — plaintiff, defendant, or third-party

Once your case is created, you can begin adding participants (opposing counsel, parties, experts), uploading documents, and tracking key dates.

Step 3: Set Up Court Monitoring

Court monitoring is one of the most powerful features in Attorney Workbench. Once enabled, you receive real-time alerts whenever a new filing, order, or activity appears on your case docket.

To enable court monitoring:

  1. Open your case from the dashboard
  2. Click the "Court Monitoring" tab
  3. Enter the court and case number if not already populated
  4. Click "Enable Monitoring"

That is it. Attorney Workbench will begin polling the court docket and alert you via email and in-app notifications when activity is detected. Most attorneys enable monitoring on every active case.

Step 4: Configure Deadlines

Attorney Workbench computes litigation deadlines automatically based on the South Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure (SCRCP). When you enter a trigger event — such as the date of service of a motion — the system calculates all related response deadlines, accounting for:

  • Rule-specific periods — 30 days for answers, 10 days for replies, etc.
  • Service method adjustments — add 3 days for mail service per Rule 6(e)
  • Holidays and court closures — weekends and SC judicial holidays are excluded from short-period computations

Deadlines appear on your case timeline and dashboard. You will receive advance warnings as deadlines approach.

Step 5: Invite Team Members

If you work with other attorneys or paralegals, invite them to your firm workspace:

  1. Go to Settings > Team
  2. Click "Invite Member"
  3. Enter their email address and select their role (attorney, paralegal, or admin)
  4. They will receive an email invitation to join your workspace

Team members can be assigned to specific cases. They will see shared case data, deadlines, documents, and notes for cases they are assigned to. Role-based permissions ensure paralegals have appropriate access levels.
